Addressing a Challenging Downhole Situation
Following cementing operations in well SPD13C-04, more than 3,700 meters of drill pipe and associated fishing tools became stuck in the well, creating one of the most complex and sensitive operational challenges faced on the Sundeck rig in recent months. Previous attempts to resolve the situation through Collide and Pack-off operations had been unsuccessful, resulting in a prolonged interruption to operations.
Addressing a challenge of this nature required a targeted intervention approach, careful execution, and the effective application of specialized downhole equipment.
A Targeted Coiled Tubing Intervention
To address the obstruction, PDK’s Coiled Tubing team carried out multiple runs to wash and clean out the wellbore, working to restore access to the target depth and prepare the well for the next stage of the intervention.
Following these operations, a mechanical-hydraulic cutter was deployed on the Coiled Tubing string. The tool was used to cut the drill pipe at a depth of 3,618 meters, successfully enabling the stuck section to be released.
The operation marked a key step in resolving the downhole obstruction and demonstrated the value of combining specialized intervention tools with technical expertise and a carefully planned operational sequence.
Technical Expertise in Complex Well Intervention
Complex downhole conditions demand more than equipment alone. They require an understanding of well conditions, appropriate tool selection, coordinated execution, and the ability to adapt the intervention approach to the challenge at hand.
Through its Coiled Tubing services, Petro Danial Kish contributed its specialized capabilities to this demanding operation. The successful release of the stuck section reflects the importance of engineering preparation, operational precision, and the experience of field personnel in addressing challenging well intervention scenarios.
PDK extends its appreciation to Petro Gohar Farasahel Kish (PGFK) and all teams involved for their cooperation and contribution to the execution of this operation.
